Local 17 has been in continued good standing since being chartered on April 27, 1901. We pride ourselves in our history, reputation, skills, and work ethic. Currently, our jurisdiction covers 10 counties in Northern Ohio which includes Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Erie, Geauga, Huron, Lake, Medina, Portage, Summit, and Lorain. We look forward to collaborating with contractors to complete the best projects in the area. Local 17 strives to provide a living wage for our union members along with a good fringe benefit package so they are able to be productive citizens in our communities.
We provide training to apprentices through a four year program. Apprentices attend classes in our training center and also log many hours of on-the-job training. The purpose of this education is to cultivate the best trained workers in all aspects of the ironworking industry. This ensures that we have the most qualified workers are at construction sites that are also educated in safe practices.
Members of Local 17 are proud to be Clevelanders and work hard to help improve the quality of life for the people of this region. With the support of our partners in the contracting community, many civic organizations have reaped the benefits of countless volunteer hours through-out the area. From the members that have come-and-gone to the members that are yet to come, Local 17 is and will remain committed to the development of our area and its citizens.
