UP COMING EVENTS…
CHILDRENS CHRISTMAS PARTY
Local 17 has scheduled a children’s Christmas Party on Saturday, December 5th between 11 am to 2:00pm. The party is held for our member’s children and grandchildren, ages 10 and under. We need volunteers to help wrap gifts, set up and clean up. Any interested persons please contact Carole at the union office to volunteer. PLEASE GET INVOLVED AND VOLUNTEER, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
ATTENTION ACTIVE JOURNEYMAN AND APPRENTICE MEMBERS:
Pursuant to the motion passed at the October meeting regarding a Holiday bonus for active journeyman and apprentice’s, your Holiday Bonus check for $75.00 will be available at the union hall for pick-up during the period of Monday, December 15, 2009 through Monday, December 29, 2009. All remaining checks will be mailed on the 30th of December. To be eligible for the Holiday bonus, you must be an ACTIVE JOURNEYMAN OR APPRENTICE WITH AN OCTOBER DUES STAMP. Your October dues must be paid by December 1, 2009 to qualify for the refund.
These checks are valid for ninety (90) days; December 15, 2009 through March 15, 2009. All uncashed checks will automatically void after ninety days on March 16, 2009. Checks returned to us by the US Postal Service for insufficient addresses will be held until the ninety day limit for pick-up. NO checks will be reissued after March 15, 2009. Please remember it is your responsibility to keep a current address on record with the union hall.
HEART AND VASCULAR SCREENING
To All IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 Active Members: You have the incredible opportunity to participate in life saving heart and vascular screenings, right at the Union Hall. Similar tests would cost more than $2,000 in a hospital! IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 will have no access to the results, they are sent directly to your home to share with your physician at your discretion. All of the tests will be offered FREE to ACTIVE MEMBERS over the age of 40.
Today’s biggest and most feared killer, Cardiovascular Disease, is more often undiscovered until it is too late. Heart disease kills more men and women in the U.S. each year than the 2nd through 5th killers combined, including all cancers. Perhaps most frightening is, despite major advances in the treatment of coronary heart disease and stroke, a large number of individuals who were apparently "healthy" died suddenly without prior symptoms. Do not let yourself become a statistic:
Over 50% of stroke and heart attack victims experience no warning signs
An estimated 10 to 12 million Americans are unaware of blockages in their leg arteries
1 of every 2.6 deaths in America is because of heart disease
Nearly 50% of all heart attacks occur in people under age 65
Heart disease is present in 40% of people ages 45 to 54
The following tests will be conducted: *The testing requires you to avoid eating within 4 hours prior to your screening (unless you are diabetic or need to eat, then please eat a light meal avoiding greasy foods)
Echocardiogram of the heart screening for Left Ventricle Dysfunction
Carotid Artery ultrasound/Intima-Media Thickness screening for plaque build-up and blood flow
Abdominal Aorta ultrasound screening for Aneurysm
Ankle Brachial Index screening for Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
Blood Pressure Screening
These cardiovascular tests are ultrasound-based, involving no radiation, no pain, no needles, and can all be done in less than 30 minutes. These tests are FREE to IRONWORKERS UNION LOCAL 17 ACTIVE MEMBERS over the age of 40 as Ironworkers Union Local 17 is contributing 100% of the $175 cost.
